Our customer solves one of the most important hardware challenges in the age of IoT. Today, fabless companies as well as semiconductor manufacturers are looking for embedded non-volatile memory solutions (eNVM) that allow products such as microcontrollers to follow Moore's Law. However, old eNVM solutions such as Embedded Flash cannot provide cost-effective solutions that are so urgently needed in the age of Internet of Things. Our client’s technology perfectly suitable for IoT due to the fact that it combines ultra-low power operation and high performance at affordable cost. Besides IoT, this technology is also very well suited for consumer electronics and due to its field driven write operations it is the perfect match for ultra-low power applications.

For our customer we are looking for a:

Director Technology Development (m/f/d)

Main purpose and scope of the position:

Lead, manage and grow technology development team inside our client’s organization, while at the same time contribute with extensive own NVM technology development and characterization expertise. Support the team hands-on while at the same time manage several technology development projects and distribute and track responsibilities.

Your tasks include:

  • Hands on technology development, planning, leading and creating a methodology for technology development for the company and partners, lead a complete technology development group to implement our client’s memory technology at manufacturing partners (foundries, IDMs)
  • Manage technology development team to distribute responsibilities, assign tasks, track work progress on tasks, manage project resources etc. (material development, device engineering, product engineering)
  • Lead regular meetings with manufacturing partners including: Review and improve slide decks delivered by technical team, track action items resulting from meetings, distribute responsibilities, prioritize and define characterization tasks
  • Hands-on support of technology development team (electrical test on single devices, mini-arrays, active arrays)
  • Create a methodology to develop a test chip and characterization plan for development of our client’s technology (Create test plans and test specifications to be executed by technology development team. Track outcomes of defined tests and derive optimized test methodologies)
  • Lead Technology post-silicon verification
  • Grow technology development team to 15+ engineers
  • Review direct employees regularly
  • Define new technology development positions and execute complete hiring process
  • Work closely with design group on definition of new test chips
  • Generate SOWs for technology development projects with customers
  • Point of contact for external freelancers and consultants in technology development space
  • Develop, implement and execute process & technology IP and patent strategy. Set up regular IP generation meetings and derive action items.
  • Manage technology development projects with all external partners (i.a. foundries, IDMs, tool vendors, R&D institutes)
  • Represent technology development team at customers and conferences
  • Responsible for electrical lab infrastructure strategy including purchasing of lab equipment an all related activities (negotiation with vendors, quote review etc.)
  • Define and manage work packages within publicly funded projects
  • Keep track of latest publications on FE memory technology (individually or assign to team), attend conferences (individually or assign to team)

Your profile:

  • M. Sc. or higher in Electrical Engineering/ Semiconductor Physics
  • min.15 years of experience in NVM technology development
  • min.10 years of experience in leading NVM technology development teams
  • NVM device engineering (Flash, SONOS, emerging memory technologies)
  • Strong background in electrical characterization (Probe stations, test systems (Agilent, Keithley, HP, NI, RIFLE…))
  • Skills in Python, Matlab, MS Office MS project or related project management software

Personal traits:

  • Hands on technology development to lead an NVM team
  • Experienced in building TD team from ground up
  • Enthusiastic about developing new memory technologies
  • Strong project management skills
  • Strong methodical and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage small to medium sized technology development teams (10 - 15 employees)
  • Good in relationships with people
  • Good communicator and presenter
  • Independent worker
