Mixed Signal Layouter/Mask Designer

Our client is a leading American based semiconductor company in the Area of Mixed-Signal IC’s with the European Headquarters in Germany.
The main focus of this division are Data Conversion Systems (DCS). This Group is expanding its analog layout staff. A primary focus for this group has been Analog-to-Digital Converters (ADCs), using switch-capacitor circuits in state-of-the-art CMOS technologies ranging from 0.65 µm down to 0.18 µm. Current and released ADC products achieve resolutions from 6 to 16 bits, and conversion speeds ranging from 1 MHz to 1 GHz.

For one of our European Design Center we are looking for some

Job Purpose
The Mixed-Signal Layout Design (mask design) position will support the DCS circuit design staff by creating best-practices layout for the designed circuits, creating the top-level chip assembly and tape-out of very complex chips, and running the verification tools which include Hercules DRC, LVS, antenna, and density checks. The position requires a high computer literacy, especially for layout CAD and the UNIX operating system. As part of the tape-out of the final database, layer generation, sizing, and parasitic layout extraction may be required. Layout in deep sub micron processes also requires attention to detail and good basic math skills, since certain layout requirements such as metal widths and contact/via arrays to meet electro migration constraints are the responsibility of mask design, without the benefit of additional verification software. The position requires both best-practices analog layout skills, and familiarity with using automated layout tools such as CCT’s iccraft (integrated into Cadence’s Virtuoso XL) or Apollo Place & Route for noncritical digital layout.

The Mixed-Signal Layout Designer would work closely with a small, motivated, and exceptional circuit design group, all of which have done much of their own layout until now. We are looking for a senior candidate, but less experience will be considered in case of very high aptitude. The candidate should be aware that the final tape-outs are often under time pressure, during which time extra focus and effort is required.

Key Requirements

  • Technical education
  • God knowledge of electronics, especially analog cicuits and concepts
  • Ability to create, manage, verify, and tape-out complex layout databases
  • Expertise in best-practices analog layout and familiarity with analog circuits
  • Expertise with Cadence layout entry (Virtuoso XL) or similar software
  • Knowledge of automated layout tools such as CCT or Apollo Place & Route
  • Familiarity with UNIX/LINUX environment
  • Fluent in English
